What is Music Therapy?
The Australian Music Therapy Association (AMTA) defines Music Therapy as “a research-based allied health profession in which music is used to actively support people as they aim to improve their health, functioning and well-being.” (www.austmta.org.au)
Music Therapy can help people of all ages and abilities manage their physical and mental health, and enhance their quality of life.
You don’t need to be ‘musical’ to take part in or benefit from music therapy. Music is simply the tool in the therapeutic process. It is through the music that we can learn about ourselves, build confidence, independence, process events, feelings, and relationships. It is through the music that we can be joined with others in community and form meaningful connections.
Registered Music Therapists (RMTs) are qualified health professionals with the training and expertise to plan and provide therapeutic musical experiences for their clients. Each session is tailored to the needs and goals of the client.
